To Threaten God Himself
If one ever passes you the opportunity to answer whether you think or not that life is easily “predictable”, how would you respond?Would you be the kind of person who says that “life is unpredictable” because one can never be too certain about the integrity of their circumstances?Or, are you the kind of person who believes that “life is predictable” because there are only so many possibilities in which you are affected by your circumstances? Most people tend to vary their personal values somewhere between these two answers—to which I am sure both sides have already been explained ad nauseam.---Instead, I would like to make the suggestion that our life is easily “replicable”, rather than being something that is reliant on predictability. In other words, all the certitudes and incertitudes that we experience in our lives can easily be re-experienced by another person given the right amount of stimulus. It can be truly surprising to learn how much our world is actually facilitated by mimicry.Whether it’s a simple joy, an injustice, a heartbreak—we replicate them, we re-enact them, we diffuse them amongst others. We absorb and “relive” meaningful experiences by our unconscious nature as humans. We don’t deeply question the progenitor of our personal sentiments. Instead of questioning what makes us happy, we rarely question who taught us how to be happy.
